(MENAFN - Arab Times) Investment in the Kuwaiti tourism sector has become a compelling need and necessary for shoring up the national economy as a whole, affirmed a ranking official. Launching businesses and enterprises in all sectors of tourism, namely family and marketing tourism, is a top priority in the foreseeable future, said Samira Al-Ghareeb, the assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in a statement to KUNA.
Festivals, such as the currently-held one, "Hala Febrayer," should be well used for tourism promotion and stimulating the economy, she added. "Hala Febrayer (February)" creates new job opportunities for the youth, activates operations for companies serving in the hotels' sector, food, communications and retail services and businesses, Al-Ghareeb told the national news agency.
The festival has become a lucrative occasion, locally and regionally, due to the accompanying diverse entertainment, cultural, sports and artistic activities. Its success affirms Kuwait's ability to lure recreation seekers from Arab Gulf and Middle Eastern countries. Marketing campaigns, namely major discounts, offered at the shopping malls and stores during the festival, constitute some of the attractive factors for citizens and the visitors, thus impacting positively on the Kuwaiti economy.
Touching on a related matter, Al- Ghareeb affirmed that the Ministry of Commerce has tightened supervision and inspection on merchants' operations and their businesses during the festival to combat any fraud in terms of pricing and quality of the promoted commodities. She praised efforts of the steering committee members and the other workers involved in organizing the festival, hoping it will be developed further in the coming years and reach the level of sustainable tourism, with establishment of a higher tourism authority to run the field.
