The UAE is special to me: Kangana Ranaut

(MENAFN-Khaleej Times) Kangana Ranaut lets us in on why she loves coming to the country

SHE MAY HAVE taken a slightly unconventional route to stardom - be it in her choice of roles or the designer costumes she loves to wear at Bollywood events, but there is no denying the fact that Kangana Ranaut is a woman to be reckoned with.

The actress, who will be honoured at the 4th Gadoya Holdings GR8 Women Awards 2014 Middle East, at Sofitel The Palm, Dubai this Saturday has not shied away from airing her progressive views on relationships or the male-dominated film industry.

When we caught up with the star in Mumbai she was more than enthusiastic about her forthcoming visit to Dubai. “I love Dubai. The UAE is special to me because it is so different from my own country, it is so close and we can reach there so quickly. No doubt it is a great place for food and shopping but I think that is just one side of the UAE,” she said.

“The other part of the UAE that appeals to me is the desert,” she continues. “I come from the mountains (Ranaut was born in Himachal Pradesh) and coming to a desert is always an exciting experience for me. The culture, tradition, local food, and the way people dress up there are so different. I get great vibes from people there.”

And it helps of course that her Bollywood movies are a big hit here as well. “I love the way people in the UAE respond to our movies. It is amazing the way Indian actors are loved in this country - not just the locals but people from various nationalities.”

The actress is back in Bollywood after a brief hiatus - she did a crash course in screenplay writing from the prestigious New York Film Academy.

“I have been to New York many times before, “ she tells us, “but this time it was a different experience. I think it’s very different when you live in a place as a student. It was refreshing to go back to regular life. It tends to get monotonous even if you live the life of a movie star. I feel it is very important for everyone. Just break the flow of regular life and take a break. Just taking a holiday is not enough, where you live in a five star hotel and do the ‘touristy’ thing. To live a life as a student was like playing a new real character.”

“To be a student, to be able to communicate with people from different parts of the world who have dreams and are struggling to do something different from what I am doing... It was such a pleasant experience to learn about these people and be part of the world that I had left behind long back. ”

The actress will next be seen in Queen out in March.
