Luxury hotel guest numbers in Oman up 10.8


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has revealed an 11 per cent increase in revenue for four- and five-star hotels across Oman in the year 2013, against 2012 figures. 


A a press release said the combined 2013 revenues of the 31 hotels included in the statistics registered RO149.3mn, compared with RO134.5mn in 2012, registering a year-on-year growth rate of 11 per cent. Five-star hotels garnered a bigger portion of the revenue with RO102.2mn, while four-star hotels posted revenue of RO47.1mn in 2013.


The NCSI report also revealed that the total number of four- and five-star hotel guests increased by 10.8 per cent in 2013, with guest numbers totaling 614,000 against the 2012 figure of 554,000.


Breaking down guest profiles by region, European nationalities topped the list with 202,000 guests in 2013, recording an annual growth rate of 16.7 per cent, when compared to the previous year's 173,000 guests who arrived from Europe.


After European nationalities, Omani guests came in at second place, with 186,000 Omanis staying at four- and five-star hotels versus 158,000 guests in 2012, registering an annual growth rate of 17.7 per cent. GCC citizens came in at third place, with their numbers recording a growth of 14.6 per cent from 79,000 guests in 2012 to 90,000 guests in 2013.


Guests from Asian nationalities came fourth in the list. Their numbers dropped from 63,000 guests in 2012 to 60,000 in 2013, registering a drop of 5.5 per cent. Americans followed in fifth place with 27,000 guests in 2013 against the 2012 total of 26,000, registering an increase of 3 per cent.


Arab nationalities (non-GCC citizens) came in at sixth place, with a 22.1 per cent increase in guest numbers in 2013, with guest numbers totaling 22,000 against the 2012 figure of 18,000. Guests from Oceania came in at eighth place, a decrease in numbers by 42.9 per cent.
