Daredevils snare Pietersen, Bangalore fork out for Yuvraj

(MENAFN- Kora) The maverick Englishman has been at the height of controversy, as he was released from Test duties by the England and Wales Cricket Board last week - freeing him up to commit to a full season of the lucrative Twenty20 tournament in India

And the Delhi Daredevils, who Pietersen had previously played with, used their 'right to match' card to perfection - waiting for the Hyderabad Sunrisers to see their bid of 900 lakh passed, before enforcing their right to buy back a player, who had previously been with franchise, for the same price

One lakh is equal to 100,000 Indian rupees or approximately $1,610

The most expensive purchase of the day went to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, as batsman Yuvraj Singh was bought for 1400 lakh (approx $2.5m) ahead of the IPL's seventh season

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik went to the Delhi Daredevils for 1250 lakh, in one of the more surprising high-price buys

Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson is now a Kings XI Punjab player, after they put up 650 lakh for the boom quick

Of other Australians purchased, Mike Hussey went for 500 lakh to the Mumbai Indians, David Warner (550 lakh) and Aaron Finch (400 lakh) both went to the Sunrisers, while Steve Smith is now a Rajasthan Royal after getting sold for 400 lakh

Australia's Twenty20 captain George Bailey was purchased by Kings XI for 325 lakh, and Mitchell Starc went for 500 lakh to Royal Challengers Bangalore

Other notable buys were Jacques Kallis (550 lakh - Chennai Super Kings), Murali Vijay (500 lakh - Delhi), Amit Mishra (475 lakh - Sunrisers), Faf du Plessis (475 lakh - Delhi) and Virender Sehwag (320 lakh - Kings XI)

Those to miss out on a contract included New Zealand's Ross Taylor, whose base price was 200 lakh, while Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene was also avoided after setting the same minimum

Australia's Dave Hussey, who had gone for $1.4m in a previous IPL auction, was also unsold for the base 100 lakh
