(MENAFN - Arab Times) Wilton Baccay banged in 18 points, Joel Jorquin added 15 points and Q8-Fitness glided into the Men's finals of the Philippine Volleyball Club in Kuwait (PHILVOCK) with a single point difference on aggregate against Adik Avengers, 81-80 as the Friday 4- set semifinal nail- biter ended 25-21, 22-25, 19-25 and 15-9 at the American International School in Salmiya. Ryan added 8 kills, Ridel 15, Sherwin 8, Jerick 6, Jun 6 and Nick 5 in the Q8 Fitness win. An attack from the left coming from ace- setter Dave resulted in the opening point for Avengers. Issah's blistering serve on the other hand delivered with his left arm tightened the noose further on Fitness. But that was quickly overshadowed in the first two minutes by deadly Rodel- Ryan partnerships that saw the match slowly and steadily drift towards a deciding first set victory for Q8Fitness, 25-21

Avengers' right side attack ran primarily through Vhong, who pounded a match-high 19 kills on 29 attempts. Throughout the match, Fitness countered with a right-side attack of its own with setter Jerick sending his middles in motion, connecting almost at will on slides to Wilton to bang through the kills. Avengers scored a disproportionate percentage of its points in the second set off serve with Dave and Marvin on the front row. Their grit was part of the reason why Q8-Fitness could not get all the way to set point in the second, resulting in a 25-22 finish of the set to make it 1-1 for both sides. The teams traded punches in the third before Nick connected on the slide play for a kill at 19-17 for Fitness followed by a Joel kill in the deep corner. Avengers responded with a kill to make it 19-18 followed by a back row attacker call on Fitness and an Avengers attack error to tie the match at 19-19.

Q8-Fitness committed a setting error followed by a Vhong service ace to force a Fitness timeout with Avengers leading 24-19. Q8Fitness' Nick stepped to the service line following the break but a solo block from Avengers' Dave brought the set to a 25-19 finish for Avengers to make it 2-1 in their favor. The fourth and final set saw the teams trade the first four points before Q8Fitness registered three in a row to force an early Avengers timeout with Fitness leading 8-3. Avengers battled back to cut the Fitness lead to 8-5 following a battle that Kent won at the net but Fitness again registered back-to-back points for an 11-5 lead. Another Fitness kill on the slide play sparked an Avengers run highlighted by a Marvin kill on an over ball followed by back-to-back Avengers setting errors and another Jun block to end the set 15-9 for Q8fitness, making the Fitness haul a total of 81 against 80 for Avengers which puts the former in the finals against league leader Burgan Spa next week.

Meanwhile, women's category league leaders Pindot continued their winning run in the group with a 2-0 win against FilQ8 to register their ninth straight victory in the tournament. Grace, Miah and AR-AR led the charge with 18, 16 and 16 points. The loss was FilQ8's third in nine outings, leaving them in second position on the league table. On the other hand, the Regency vs Chickass match also followed the same pattern with the Salmiya based 5-star hoteliers winning in both sets 25-15, 25-21 behind torrid spikes and aces from Gemma, Maria, Gee and Jannete who finished with 18, 14, 10 and 8 points apiece to pit their side in third place with six wins in nine matches. Adik Divass won 2-0 (25-8, 25-13) in the final match of the women's category against PSK Breakers.
