(MENAFN - Arab Times) A Syrian in his 20s disguised as a policeman was arrested by security operatives of Farwaniya Directorate.

The suspect, in police uniform, was arrested at a checkpoint he mounted in front of a popular commercial complex in Al-Rai area, with the intention of robbing taxi drivers.

The suspect is said to have requested taxi drivers to show their documents and wallet, and a passerby informed the Operations Room. He tried to escape on foot at the sight of police officers.

He was chased and arrested. Initial investigation revealed the Syrian is jobless and the uniform he was wearing belonged to one security officer. He was referred to the concerned authority.
