China gold consumption up 41 percent in 2013


(MENAFN) Gold consumption in China went over 1,000 tons in 2013 due to the increased domestic demand for jewelry and bars, Xinhua reported



During the year, gold consumption surged 41.36 percent from 2012 to hit 1,176 tons, coming nearly at triple of its domestic production of the precious metal



Jewelry demand in 2013 increased to 716.5 tons, jumping 42.52 percent from 2012. Demand for gold bars soared 56.57 percent to 375.73 tons



China might possibly take over India's place as the number one consumer of gold in the world
