Japan government debt hits USD9.94b


(MENAFN) Central government debt in Japan hit USD9.94 trillion at the end of December 2013, up from USD9.87 trillion at the end of the third quarter of same year, XInhua reporte



The country's Finance Ministry said that it expected debt to increase to USD10.14 trillion by the end of the current fiscal year



A quarterly survey shows that the debt consisted of USD8.29 trillion in government bonds, USD539.14 billion in borrowing from mainly financial institutions and USD1.1 trillion in financing bills or short-term notes



The total debt came at more than double the country's nominal gross domestic product in 2012 at about USD4.64 trillion
