(MENAFN -Arab News) TWO sports events took place on Feb. 1 and 2 about 7,000 miles apart. Both were the finals. The first was a football (soccer) match held in Riyadh between Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal clubs. And the second was the Super Bowl final between Seattle Sea Hawks and Denver Broncos in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In Riyadh, Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, patronized the final match of the Crown Prince Cup between Riyadh’s Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal at King Fahd International Stadium on Feb. 1 and Al-Nasr won the trophy. There is more to come between the two rivals, Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal like the Abdulatif Jameel Professional League and the Al-Nasr football club is leading ahead of Al-Hilal. The motto of the Al-Nasr club is: Mutsadr La Tuklmni. So, what does that mean? I will tell you later. I was in Washington, D.C. at the time when the two football titans were clashing. One day after the game in Riyadh, the Super Bowl kicked off in New Jersey. Seattle Sea Hawks won the game. But before the game I met one of their fans who had visited the Kingdom many times, he surprised me when he said, I am a Seattle Sea Hawks fan, so I am Mustsadr La Tuklmni, which means I am ahead, don’t talk to me. It turned out that the motto “Mutsadr Laa Tuklmni” is gaining popularity even outside the Kingdom and who knows it might end up in Webster’s dictionary or become an international motto of winning teams. Many people ask about the importance of Al-Nasr clinching the Crown Prince Cup and also seeing them ahead in the Saudi Professional League. Despite its popularity Al-Nasr did not succeed in winning any title for the past many years. But this year, Al-Nasr Football Club is not only winning, but they are adding a new flavor to their style. In the past years, Saudi football stadiums failed to attract spectators but the strong comeback of Al- Nasr has changed the situation. People are visiting stadiums in droves. Al-Nasr was and still is the breeding ground of many players like Majid Abdullah. Prince Faisal bin Turki is the president of Al-Nasr. His skillful management has breathed a new life into the team. Currently, Al-Nasr leading by nine points in the Saudi Professional Champion and is getting closer to winning the champion’s league. It seems that Nasrawi enthusiasts will continue to say… Mutsadr La Tuklmni.
