QU Study Shows Jurassic Era Rocks Contain 98% of Qatar's Oil


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Jurassic era rocks found in Qatar contain most economic accumulations of oil, a study by Qatar University's Environmental Studies Center (ESC) reveals.



The accumulations amount to 98% of all Qatar's oil production and lie deep underground at 13000 to 17000 feet, the study found, with the most important inshore fields in Dukhan and offshore in Idd El Shargi and Bu



ESC Acting Director Dr Hamad Al Saad Al Kuwari presented the results of the research at the 9th International Conference of the Jurassic Period held in Jaipur, India. Dr Al Kuwari's paper titled 'Startigraphic and facies analysis of the Upper Jurassic Arab 'C' in Qatar' included research on the classification of the different layers and faunal content of the Arab 'C' which is considered to be one of the most important layers of petroleum reservoir



Commenting on the results of the research, Dr Al Kuwari said, "This study highlights the level of the research being conducted by the Center to identify, document and preserve Qatar's natural resource



It will present important answers for archaeology and geology students, scientists, and researchers in Qatar and beyond." At the quadrennial conference, over 100 international researchers discussed various topics on Jurassic period that dates back 144 million years and lasted 60 million years



The conference highlighted the economic aspects of Jurassic rocks in various countries such as oil, fossils and mineral
