Afghan President Meets German Foreign Minister


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Afghan president Hamid Karzai met here on Sunday with German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeie, who is currently visiting Kabul.



During the meeting, they discussed the developments of the security situation in Afghanistan and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, according to Khaama Pres



The German foreign minister reiterated Germany's long term commitment to Afghanistan and welcomed the government's preparation for the upcoming presidential and provincial council election



Germany has currently deployed over 3000 soldiers under the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. The majority of the German troops will withdraw from Afghanistan along with the other NATO forces by the end of the yea



Germany is considering to leave around 800 soldiers in Afghanistan beyond 2014, to advise and train the Afghan national security forces, provided the accords are signed by the Afghan governmen



In the meantime, the German foreign minister said that his country was prepared to assist Afghanistan in peace process with the militant group
