(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Muscat Municipality has finished the mapping and design of three new slaughterhouses that will come up in Seeb, Amerat and Quriyat. Construction of these projects is expected to start soon as the municipality has invited bids from specialised companies.
''We have floated tenders inviting companies specialising in building slaughterhouses. These facilities will be fitted with the necessary equipment. Details and architectural designs will be announced soon,'' a Muscat Municipality official said.
The municipality has also resumed work at the temporary slaughterhouse in Mabela which had been set up as an interim arrangement before the main facility in the wilayat becomes functional.
''It had been closed for technical reasons and for installing more facilities and providing veterinary staff,'' said Dr Shawki al Zadjali, director of the municipality's slaughterhouse directorate. ''Work at the slaughterhouse will be carried out seven days a week from 7am till 2pm.''
Dr Shawki explained that the Mabela slaughterhouse was allocated to receive goats and sheep and would be developed in future to slaughter cows and camels, too. It has a capacity of up to 50 animals a day and it's possible to increase this to 55 with the availability of extra workers, he said.
The facility has a slaughter and skinning hall, the supervisor's office, an accounts office, an area for remnants and skin, staff toilets, a wash basin for clients, external shaded waiting area besides an air-conditioned area.
Dr Shawki pointed out that there is a staff accommodation with necessary facilities to facilitate work and ensure workers' availability at the place.
The slaughterhouse will follow the mandatory health, hygiene and quality inspection rules, he said.
