Al Taj teams, Adis B post wins in Inter-Schools Bonafide Basketball Tournament

(MENAFN -Arab News) The 1st Inter-Schools Bonafide Parents Basketball Tournament 2014 at Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers rubberized court entered second week of hostilities with Al Taj B scoring a weekend double to seize the early Group B lead in the team standings.Fifteen Filipino school teams in Riyadh put together by the students’ parents and divided into two groups entered the tournament under the auspices of Riyadh Inter-Hotels Sports committee chaired by Carlos D. Ollero. The eight teams bracketed in Group A are: Al Taj-A (coach, Oliven Balmeo), Elite-A (Bong Cruz), FGPIS (Jerry Villanueva), IPSR A (Ronaldo Timan), MSIS (Yuri Viguilla), PCIS-A (Javier Santos) RIS-A (Dondon Silang) and SPIS (Sandy Fugaban)Making up the seven-team Group B are: Adis (Robert Gulmayo), Al Taj-B (Cesar “Boyet” Espiritu), Elite B-1 (Eduardo “Ace” Mangalinao), Elite B-2 (Nelson Navarro), IPSR-B (Ferdie Parco), PCIS-B (Javier Santos) and RIS-B (Rowel Gomez).Joining Espirutu’s Taj B as second week winners were Al Taj-A of Oliven Balmeo, and Adis-B (Al Danah) of Robert Gulmayo. Also, FGPIS (Future Generation) of Jerry Villanueva finally won after 2 losses in the young tournament.Al Taj B beat Elite B 2 of Nelson Navarro in a lopsided game 82-59. Taj B’s second game of the week was likewise a walk in the park, 90-65 over IPSR B. Last years’ champion Al-Taj A turned back the challenge of FGPIS 75-73 in a frenetic contest that almost went into overtime after a deadlock with 0.14 of a second left.Andrew Vallejo made sure no extra period is needed as he hit a buzzer-beater underneath the basket to break the 73-all tie and give Taj A victory. Adis (Al Danah) posted its second win while keeping Elite-B-2 winless with an 80-68 triumph.
