(MENAFN -Arab News) Alumaco closed out its amazing run Friday, turning back Eram Engineering in a heart-stopping finish 81-80 on Reggie Bantigue layup with six seconds remaining to capture the Intercompany C title, in the Eastern Province Basketball League at Ettifaq Club Gymnasium here. The mighty Aluminum Manufacturing Company squad, which had the luxury of three weeks rest with an undefeated record in the elimination on a stepladder format, notched its sixth win in a row to capture the championship on its first appearance in the league. It was a see-saw battle from start to finish with Eram Engineering ahead at 64-57 early in the fourth quarter. The boys of Alumaco’s interim coach Dante Bulan mounted a 16-9 windup on a 3-pointer each from Emmanuel Jaradal, Bantigue and Lopez to tie the game at 73-all with four minutes remaining. Eram Engineering nursed a 80-79 lead on a three-point basket by Raul Huntsberry with 13 seconds remaining. But Huntsberry missed his free-throw and Bryan Rosales hauled down a defensive rebound and passed the ball to Bantigue who raced down court for a lay-up. Eram had a chance to turn things around with six ticks on the final play but Huntsberry bobbled and the ball went out of bounds.Rosales, named as the tournament MVP, finished the game with19 points. Emmanuel Jaradal also scored 19 ponts, Bantigue 13 points, Jhunray Raymundo added 11 while wingman Lopez chipped in 10 points off the bench.Eram was led by Huntsberry with 23 points; Bulingit had 17 while Kyle had 16 points for the never-say-die Engineering squad. In the other championship game, Electric Industries Company clinched the Intercompany B title against short-handed Issam Kabbani team with a 73-61 victory. The EIC dribblers made a decisive 9-0 third quarter run to seize control at 51-42 lead entering the fourth quarter and held on to dump their taller rivals. The two teams engaged in a tight first half. Issam Kabbani surged ahead at 12-9 in the first quarter before EIC pulled away in the second period for a 34-31 edge. But it was gritty Sonny Cariaga who seized the spotlight and named MVP with his 17 points, five rebounds and three assist highlighted with eight points in the last canto to help EIC control the game with a brilliant finish. The boys of coach Oligario Batuhan responded well in both ends, capitalizing on the absence of Kabbani’s main gunner Torres for the win. Ernest Villarin and Eleuterio Lunas stepped up their game to score 16 and 12 points respectively while Gerald Cabaltica added six points and eight rebounds for the champs.Lito Villanueva had 11 points while Boy Candelaria had a game high 19 points for Issam Kabbani.
