Four government schools will select a total of 72 male and female students to participate in a series of four-day courses in the deserts and mountains of Oman, aimed at equipping them with essential life skills for their future. Fawziya al Khanjari, head of government relations at HSBC Bank Oman, said, ''The bank is proud to continue its association with Outward Bound Oman in support of the Ministry of Education's extracurricular programmes to enhance the capabilities of young Omanis.

Teaching skills like time management, communication, teamwork and problem solving, the Journey to Discovery offers youth a unique opportunity to experience something new and broaden their horizons by testing their capabilities outside the classroom.'' She added, ''As part of the bank's commitment to youth development and environmental awareness, our team of mentors will join students on the courses and support Outward Bound instructors in sharing their real life work experiences and challenges with the students.

We are investing in Oman's future and this programme will help students realise their true potential and teach them valuable skills that employers' value.'' Students and mentors will have a rare opportunity to escape the distractions of modern life as they leave their mobile phones at home and live outdoors during the four day courses.

The core lessons we try to instil are self-confidence, communication skills and the ability to work as a team while also fostering a sense of community service and appreciation for the environment. These essential skills are valuable in every aspect of life, including career plans and enhancing employability.''
