S. Korea to fine carmakers with fuel efficiency below standards


(MENAFN) The South Korean Commerce Ministry said that the country is planning to implement fines on automakers who sell cars with fuel efficiency below standards, Xinhua reported



The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said that car manufacturers and importers are to be fined for cars that do not meet with the minimum fuel efficiency of 17 kilometers per liter



The penalty will be set at nearly USD76.2 on every 1 kilometer per liter below the standard



The current standard of 17 kilometer per liter will be applied until 2015, while the minimum for 2016 is to be set within this year after discussions with car manufactures
