Philippine inflation up to 4.2 percent


(MENAFN) The inflation in the Philippines increased to 4.2 percent last month, increasing from 4.1 percent from the month before it, Xinhua reported



The National Statistics Office (NSO) said that inflation rate increased in the month on the back of higher food prices as well as clothing and household equipment



The NSO said that the core annual inflation, after excluding food and energy items, stayed at 3.2 percent in January, while the inflation for food prices alone increased to 5.7 percent during the month



The Eastern Visayas region in the central Philippines had recorded the highest inflation rate of 7.8 percent due to it being severely hit by typhoon Haiyan
