Kuwait - Coastguard foils bid to smuggle drugs by Iranian gang

(MENAFN - Arab Times) Six Iranian nationals have been arrested for infiltrating into the Kuwaiti territorial waters in an attempt to smuggle drugs into the country. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior, when the radar system of Coast Guard Department detected the entry of a boat into the Kuwaiti territorial waters, a patrol team was sent for investigations. As the team approached the boat, it issued orders to the individuals aboard the boat but the latter refused to follow them and turned around to escape. While the team was chasing the boat, they noticed the suspects dropping a strange item into the sea. The Coast Guard patrol team retrieved the item to discover it was a white bag wrapped in plastic and tied with a rope. After requesting backup support to stop the boat, the officers opened the bag to find drugs. Eventually, the boat was caught and taken to the Sabah Al-Ahmad base of the Coast Guard Department. The six Iranian nationals aboard the boat were arrested and referred with the drugs to the concerned authorities for investigations. The Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah led the operation
