(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) will be conducting a 3X3 (pronounced 3 on 3) basketball charity event called Sports Meets Charity' in cooperation with GUtech at Halban on February 15.

This was announced jointly by OBA and GUtech at a press conference held at the Oman Olympic Association headquarters in Ghubra on Tuesday.

The competition will be held from 9am to 6pm. 3X3 is played on just one half of the basketball court with each team consisting of five players - three on court and two on the bench.

The duration of each game will be ten minutes. Scoring is also different, with two points for a basket from outside the three-point line and one point from the inside. Gunhild Pfaff, sports officer at GUtech, said, ''There is no registration fee and each basket scored will have a cash value that will be donated to the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disability in Azaiba. The cash value will be matched by sponsoring companies.''

This event is open for people of all age groups - U13, U15, U18 and above 18 years. More than 250 public and private schools, colleges, universities and basketball clubs in Batinah and Muscat have been sent invitations to participate along with the general public.

Hisham al Adwani, vice-chairman of OBA, said, ''We wish to create more awareness about basketball. We have clubs all over Oman and a special centre to train youth.''

In addition to the basketball tournament, a basket shooting competition, children's sports and adventure corner, box climbing, off-road bicycle test driving, horse and pony riding and a food corner will be present at the venue, making it an ideal event for the entire family.
