(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Municipal Council at its Monday meeting condemned the indecent performance by a dance troupe participating in Muscat Festival.
The show at Naseem Gardens was stopped after one performance as it conflicted with the sultanate's culture and morals. The council stressed on not allowing such shows. The meeting was held under the aegis of Eng Mohsin bin Mohammed al Sheikh, chairman of Muscat Municipality and the Municipal Council. It was decided to take measures to prevent such performances in future, too. ''The council will review all activities taking place at the festival to come up with a proper set of measures,'' a municipality official said.
The meeting also discussed complaints of Amerat residents on environmental pollution from industrial activities near residential pockets.
Article 31 of the local order 23/92 on regulation of buildings in Muscat does not permit establishing light or heavy industries in residential areas, commercial-cum-residential buildings or commercial buildings. The issue has been referred to the Environmental, Social and Health Affairs Committee for further study and action. The council also approved recommendations of the Public Affairs Committee on sites allocated for hobby fishing and has banned amateur fishing from the Al Minaa roundabout to Kalbuh Park in Muttrah. Signboards in Arabic and English along Muttrah Corniche on the new norms will soon be put up and places designated for such fishing in the governorate will be announced later.
