Al Qaradawi's allegations against UAE false, provocative: GCC chief

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on Monday strongly condemned accusations levelled by Yousif Al Qaradawi in his Friday sermon on Januray 24 against the UAE

Al Zayani slammed the accusations as unacceptable provocation and false allegations that only raise sedition and serve enemies of the Islamic Nation

Al Zayani, in a statement to Wam, expressed his sorrow for such provocative charges from Al Qaradawi against the UAE, which is always known for its principled, honourable stances and supportive initiatives towards the Islamic causes as well as its assistance for Muslims regardless of their place

At the critical circumstances the region is experiencing, he asserted the GCC's keenness to close ranks and consolidate solidarity

Zayed Saeed Saif Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Lawyers and Jurists Association, on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Yousouf Al Qaradawi. He called for moving a criminal case against Qaradawi temporarily

The Attorney-General has accepted the complaint and referred it to the State Security Prosecution for action

"In my capacity as an Emirati citizen living in the UAE, I enjoy peace and security. What made our lives uncomfortable is the followers of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation," he said in his complaint

"We heard their (Muslim Brotherhood) leader appealing to the Libyans to go for Jihad and carry arms. Many responded, and Libya turned into killing fields.

"He (Qaradawi) said that the UAE fights the establishment of an Islamic regime. This is not the first time that Qaradawi mounted an attack on the country.

Al Shamsi said that despite Qaradawi attacking the UAE, they have not received a satisfactory response from Qatar condemning it. Al Shamsi told Khaleej Times that if the UAE issues a ruling against Qaradawi, he will be handed over to the UAE by Qatar

"A red alert will be issued and sent to the Interpol. In case he leaves Doha, he will be arrested and handed over to the UAE," Al Shamsi said

Al Shamsi said Qaradawi published his seditious sermon on another website, which is an IT crime punishable under the UAE laws. An offender can be jailed for not more than 10 years if he/she promotes views and notions, which might instigate and stir turmoil and sabotage, and hurt the national unity and social peace in the country
