Peru gas project finally approved

(MENAFN) The expansion of the main natural gas field in Peru has finally won approval despite UN concerns of the possibility of endangering Amazon tribes, The Peninsula Qatar reported

The project has been facing opposition from environmental groups since 2003, but it's receiving strong support from political leaders in the country

The expansion will overlap with an indigenous reserve populated by 1,100 people, which includes around 100 people who avoid all contact with the world

The country's Ministry of Mining and Energy approved the project impacting the environment as the nation is focusing on a World Court verdict that resolved a maritime dispute with Chile
