Five transit passengers held with nine kg cocaine in Abu Dhabi

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In four different cases, the Abu Dhabi Police arrested five Nigerians with cocaine capsules concealed in their guts in an attempt to smuggle them into their home country

The police seized a total of 441 cocaine capsules, weighing 9.340kg, from them. The smugglers hid the drugs in their bowels to smuggle them to Nigeria via Abu Dhabi International Airport

The five Nigerian men were referred to the public prosecution for allegedly possessing and smuggling narcotics

According to the court records, the five suspects looked tired and exhausted while they were in the transit hall at the airport, which aroused the suspicion of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at the Abu Dhabi International Airport

One of the five accused even complained of severe stomach ache. Colonel Sultan Suwaih Al Dermaki, Head of the Anti-Narcotics Section at CID, Abu Dhabi Police, said a 39-year-old Nigerian man identified as Y.A.Th, was arrested after he fell sick at the transit hall

When questioned, he confessed to having 84 cocaine capsules, weighing 1.42kg, hidden in his guts, flown from Brazil's Sao Paulo Airport and headed to Lagos Airport in Nigeria

Al Dermaki said two other Nigerians, identified as A.A.A., 39, and A.Sh.D., 36, who were flying from Sao Paulo to Abuja via Abu Dhabi, were arrested from the same flight. Both the suspects looked "extremely fatigued" when they asked to change their flight to another destination

The police caught them and subjected them to a screening test, during which A.A.A was found to be carrying 64 cocaine capsules, weighing 1.66kg in his gut, while 56 capsules, weighing 1.3kg, were found concealed in A.Sh.D.'s gut

In the third case, F.K.A, a 44-year-old Nigerian was caught with 109 cocaine capsules, weighing 2.58kg, in his gut. He was also travelling from Sao Paulo to Lagos via Abu Dhabi. He experienced severe fatigue in transit, which led to his arrest

In the fourth case, a 38-yar-old Nigerian man concealed 128 cocaine capsules, weighing 1.39kg, in his bowel. He raised police suspicion when he tried to change his flight several times

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohamad Burasheed, Director of the CID, said the common factor in the four cases was the flight course - all the suspects took flights from Sao Paulo to Abuja and Lagos via Abu Dhabi. They also tried to mislead the police officers by changing their flights, but were later arrested after being subjected to an x-ray screening test. All the suspects confessed to smuggling cocain
