(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Parliament Office has denied 'rumors' that it has allocated Saturdays to discuss parliamentary interpellations, reports Alam Alyawm daily quoting knowledgeable sources. For example, the sources said, the grilling request which has been filed by MPAdel Al-Kharafi against Minister of Public Works Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim may be adjourned to March.
He went on to say all indications show the minister has asked to suspend the discussions on the inquest for two weeks in line with the internal by-law. Accordingly, the grilling has been adjourned to February 18 but practically it is not possible to discuss it in February since there is a fear of lack of quorum in mid- February since the sessions coincide with the spring holidays and the national days celebrations. In the same context, sources said Al-Kharafi is preparing surprises and will be armed with documents during discussions on the grilling.
He has said the surprises will shock the government. Sources added the minister is in dilemma because the reports of the State Audit Bureau have weakened his position. On the other hand, a number of lawmakers have expressed their rejection of the mechanism of the government dealing with the MPs. Sources indicated the government is not impartial since it has issued instructions to suspend the transactions submitted by the lawmakers who support the grilling requests and vice-versa. The sources added, the MPs have warned the government against adopting such attitudes and stressed on Article 7 of the Constitution.
Sources quoting the MPs say a minister who suspends the transactions of citizens based on personal preferences, is weak practically and administratively. Meanwhile, MP Yousef Al-Zalzalah announced that he and 15 other colleagues will submit a request to the Speaker of Parliament Marzouq Al- Ghanim at Tuesday's session to give priority to the proposed KD 75 increment to children's allowance for a maximum of 7 children, reports Al-Anba daily. For his part, Chairman of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committee MP Faisal Al-Shaye is expecting the government may turn down the proposed increase to rent and children allowance which the committee has approved and forwarded to the Parliament.
He said the government sees any increment to rent or children allowance will upset the state budget and cause additional burden, but he's optimistic the executive and the legislative authorities will agree on other alternatives more flexible than the proposals made
