(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Ministry of Communications hopes to have completed preparations for the formation of a telecommunications and information technology regulating body this year, an official said on Sunday. The telecommunications and IT sector has recently been witnessing "huge leaps in both quality and legalities," said Assistant Undersecretary for Communications and Assisted Services Naser Al-Kandari. Already, several affairs pertaining to businesses working in the field have received fair regulations including the operation of telecommunications firms and the internet service providers' licenses market and prices. The ministry itself has also completed setting up its international call tariffs and has completed its linkage to international land and marine cables, he added.
The official was speaking on behalf of the minister Issa Al-Kanderi in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Second Kuwait Telecom Forum. This "crucial" importance calls for the need for in-depth expert discussion between local companies in order to exchange views on the topic and to come up with solutions for the matter, he suggested. Meanwhile, National Assembly (parliament) members and Environment Public Authority (EPA) discussed on Sunday a couple of suggestions on a new bill on the EPA and the country's environment draft law. The bills were considered during a parliament session that was attended by Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Ali Al-Omair and Deputy General- Director of the EPA for Technical Affairs Mohammed Al-Enezi
Speaking to KUNA following the session, Al-Enezi said the parliamentary legislative committee had sent the suggestions to the committee on public utilities for further deliberations, while the EPAspoke highly of the proposals as "excellent initiatives". He noted that the committee on public utilities will come up with technical remarks in this regard with a week. On his part, the chief of the EPA's legal affairs department, Jassem Al- Jasmi told KUNA that the country's environmental law mainly aims to protect Kuwaiti environment.
