Pavlyuchenkova, Errani book final spots in Paris

(MENAFN- Kora) Pavlyuchenkova beat compatriot Maria Sharapova 4-6 6-3 6-4 and Errani edged France's Alize Cornet 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 7-6 (7-5) to book a second successive final appearance at the competition.

First up in the French capital was the all-Russian affair as Sharapova dropped her first set of the tournament in Paris against Pavlyuchenkova, who fought from a set down to advance to the final of an event she is yet to win

Top seed Sharapova came quickly out of the blocks, racing into a 3-0 lead before Pavlyuchenkova levelled at 4-4

The 22-year-old won all 15 of her first service points in the second set, breaking Sharapova twice to level the match.

In a tight third set, Pavlyuchenkova got the crucial break in the final game to progress to the final where she will meet Errani, the Italian world number seven.

After a tight first set that saw both players broken three times each, third seed Errani moved quickly ahead in the tie-break, going 5-1 up before moving ahead by winning the second set point.

Cornet fought back in the second, saving three of four break points, to level the match.

It came down to a tie-break again in the third set and, as in the first, Errani came out on top to book a final clash with Pavlyuchenkova - whom she has only ever played once before.

The world number 26 won the pair's only meeting in 2011 with Errani eager to go a step further than last year where she lost out to Mona Barthel
