Shine culture competition launched in Bahrain


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has described the "Shine" cultural contest, which was launched on the sidelines of Shaikh Khalid Horse Race Cup for the Disabled festival, as the result of successful social partnership with the University of Bahrain (UoB).



He stressed the need of bringing the handicapped into mainstream society as he believed they could contribute in a big way to the national growth. He also underlined the need to hone their skills to help them achiev their ambitions



He said the aim was to create a stimulating environment for creativity and innovation so as to uphold Bahrain's shining image at local, regional and international events



"Shine" competition was announced at a Press conference held at the university's premises by the organising committee of Shaikh Khalid Horse Race Cup for the Disabled festival last week. Winners of the contest will be exempted from first-stage university fees or given BD500 cash prizes.



The festival's personality "Kahilan" ( an Arabian horse type ) was announced at the conference



The registration can be made via the festival's website www.khalidcup.com. People can follow the festival's news via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube using the name "KHALIDCUP"



SCW receives 'Discover Bahrain' delegatio



A delegation from "Discover Bahrain" paid a visit last week to the premises of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), as part of the "Discover Bahrain" programme, organised by the Good Word Society



A presentation on the SCW's goals, duties and role in implementing the National Strategy for the Advancement of Bahraini Women was screened



The delegation visited the SCW's Women's Support Centre and was informed about its duties and services, including receiving demands related to women's issues, studying them and proposing ways to solve them in coordination with all relevant sides



The delegation also visited the Bahrain Women's Competence Development Centre (Riyadat) in A'ali where it was briefed about the centre, established in partnership between the SCW and the Bahrain Development Bank, facilities and services



"Discover Bahrain" is a project initiated by the Good Word Society and aims at enabling the world to discover the heart and essence of Bahrain



London Red Omnibus ۬visits Manam



The well-known London Red Omnibus visited Bahrain Capital's Governorate where it was received by the Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa and several officials



Shaikh Hisham praised the deep-rooted historical and bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom



The governor emphasised the significance of the Great British Week that was recently organised in Bahrain



The visit by the famous London-plying passenger bus included a stop-over in front of the Governorate offices and a tour throughout the governorate. Staffers took snapshots of the governor and the bus. who stood close to the London Omnibus



The visit by the London Omnibus to Manama comes as part of the activities of the Great British Week2014 marking the bicentennial of bilateral relations under the auspices of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa
