An Egyptian executive manager allegedly raped a woman in her flat after visiting her on the pretext of discussing business, a court heard. The 28-year-old manager is believed to have tricked the victim after getting acquainted with her on the Internet and talking about his intention to do business with her.

On May 25, last year, he called her on the phone and visited her at her apartment in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

However, once inside the flat, he took advantage of the fact that he was alone with her and started to touch and harass her. As she rushed inside her bedroom to call the police, he pulled her by her hair and twisted her arms, after which he allegedly raped her.

The manager was charged with rape with the use of force in the Court of First Instance.

The complainant, a 28-year-old woman from Belorussia, told the Prosecution that she called the defendant after she arrived in Dubai. “I asked him to meet me at a cafe in the Marina area. But he insisted his workplace was near my flat and would prefer to drop by and show me copies of the trade licenses he had,” she said in the investigation.

As soon as her friend left her flat, the accused started flirting with her. “He stood by my side and said it was important to get to know each other in person before beginning any business relation.”

After the alleged rape, the accused went to the bathroom, after which the victim rushed outside without wearing any clothes. “He chased me and took the lift. I tried to go to the ground floor but he stopped me and went up to the 34th floor.”

An Indian woman teacher, 29, said in the investigation that she walked out of her flat on the 34th floor to take the lift when she saw the complainant naked. “She was very sad and crying in the lift. There was a man yelling at her but I did not pay much attention to his face.”

The teacher later brought some clothes from her place for the victim. She then called the police. A police lieutenant said that they checked the security cameras in the building which showed the defendant fighting with the complainant in the lift.

The accused was arrested on Shaikh Zayed Road. The court adjourned the case to February 9.Mary@khaleejtimes.com
