Oman's Olympic body forms new committees to boost performance


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) announced on Tuesday that a number of new committees within the national organisation have been formed as part of plans to boost its performance and help in conducting sporting events better.


Sheikh Saif al Hosni was appointed chairman of the planning and follow-up committee, H E Sayyid Sultan al Busaidi will spearhead the anti-doping committee and Sayyida Sanaa al Busaidiyah will head the women's sports committee. There were several other committees set up by the OOC.


Sheikh Khalid al Zubair, the OOC's chairman, thanked the board of directors of the OOC for their 'valuable initiatives and continued support'. He also congratulated the heads and members of the newly-formed committees.


Sheikh Khalid said, ''The board has been keen on involving a large number of experienced and specialised public personalities of various trends in the membership of these committees.


''The goal now is to enrich the activities of these committees and provide them with the required expertise in their development drive.''


During a meeting at the OOC's headquarters before the announcement, the national Olympic body discussed various methods in which sports can bring about 'sustainable development' in a variety of fields, like public health, schools and universities, environment, economy and tourism.


Sheikh Khalid said, ''In the coming years, we want to strengthen the cooperation between the OOC, the Ministry of Sports Affairs, national sports associations and other stakeholders.''


He added that the new committees will give the OOC ‘a big boost in its future programme
