FAO official hails Oman's progress in agriculture and fisheries


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Dr José Graziano da Silva, director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently visited a number of research centres and units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. He was briefed on Oman's experience and strategies in fish quality control and aquaculture, as well as agriculture and livestock.


He was also briefed about the progress of work at these centres and their laboratories and the equipment used. 


At the end of his visit, Dr Silva praised the comprehensive development witnessed by the sultanate under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in all spheres, particularly in agriculture and fisheries.


He also praised the setting up research centres to serve this sector. He pointed at the importance of agricultural, livestock and fisheries research in scientific development and said that research staff should be provided with all possible support.


He said that Oman was an active member of FAO having immense experience, and it hosts many conferences, seminars and training courses by FAO.
