Over 100 workers file complaint against South Sharqiyah firm in Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) More than 100 workers from a company operating in South Sharqiyah have filed a labour complaint at the Directorate General of Manpower in the governorate alleging non-implementation of the three per cent increment rule for 2013 and disparity in payments.

A statement from the Ministry of Manpower said that representatives of both parties in the dispute were summoned for a meeting with officials from Directorates General of Manpower and Labour Welfare, and a legal expert.

The demands of workers included implementation of the rule on mandatory annual increments on basic salary as per Ministerial Decision 32/2012. They also demanded a better standard of living like some of their colleagues as per Article 11 of the Labour Law, which states that the employer treat all workers equally if they have been employed under the same work conditions. They also sought the return of wages of some workers that were deducted in 2013.

In addition, they sought clarity on the role of each worker as detailed in the original contract. The company was given two weeks to respond to all claims, after which the Directorate General of Manpower will work on a settlement, failing which it will consider referring the matter to court.
