(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Nearly 80 people gathered in Bausher on Sunday evening to voice their concern over the lack of safety measures by quad bike rental shops in the area after a 16 year old lost his life on Wednesday while dune bashing with friends.
One of the persons who called the gathering, said it was to create awareness among people about the dangerous sport and flouting of safety rules by quad bike rental shops. ''The father of the deceased was among those who had gathered. We had informed the public of the gathering through social media and requested other media organisations to cover it so as to spread a message that this sport can get dangerous if safety standards are not adhered to, and could even result in a fatality,'' he said.
He said that the boy was a class ten student of Azzan bin Qais School. ''I had visited the Bausher dunes last week and noticed several teenagers risking their lives by riding without helmets.'' He added that although rental shops ask for age proof, but children below 16 are allowed to ride the bikes if a guardian accepts to sign the declaration form for them. ''The sport should be better organised and by responsible people,'' he said
