Oman Flour Mills supports children with special needs

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Fund donations to charity and youth organisations set the tone for ringing in the New Year at Oman Flour Mills Company.

The social foundations that benefited from the company's financial assistance include the Association for the Welfare of the Handicapped and Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs.

Jaalan Club, a youth sports and arts club, also received monetary aid from OFM. The assistance – RO5,000 each for the associations for the handicapped and special needs children, and RO2,500 for the sports club – is part of Oman Flour Mills' Corporate Social Responsibility policy initiatives. The associations expressed gratitude for OFM's magnanimity and sense of social commitment. Sabah al Bahlani, CEO, Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disability, said the donation is significant as the association is planning to reach out to more children in need and expand its services.

''We admit children aged three to nine at our centre, and also arrange home visits, on a need basis, for newborns and kids aged up to nine years. Staff training and prompt services require continued financial support from the corporate world,'' she remarked. Lubna al Kindy, vice president of the Association of the welfare of the Handicapped, said OFM's support for the handicapped kids will encourage and empower them to press ahead with new projects with increased vigour.

''The number of children who look to us for support and care are increasing, and obviously we need more funds. Apart from this, projects such as the upcoming training centre for special education teachers put constraints on our budget. The training centre will be operational by April, and we will be better positioned to offer professional care on a larger scale.

Thanks to OFM for their timely support,'' Lubna said. Thanking the aid from OFM, a Jaalan club executive commented that the funds will go a long way in supporting the youth in creative ways and executing projects aimed at comprehensive youth development.

A spokesperson at OFM said the company has always accorded the greatest priority to support the cause of the needy and the disadvantaged in our society. ''We strongly feel it to be our corporate responsibility to support children from underprivileged background as well as those with special needs. OFM's corporate culture is rooted in community support and engagement,'' he
