(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A strategic partnership between the Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates and the World Economic Forum (WEF) was announced on Thursday following a meeting in Davos between Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi and WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab

Al Gergawi and Schwab confirmed that the UAE would host the 2014 Summit on the Global Agenda, a major WEF forum that will bring together more than 1,000 intellectuals, experts and decision-makers from economic, political, social, and environmental fields

"The Government Summit partnership with the World Economic Forum will focus on the future of government administration around the world, including the most important challenges and solutions that will improve the performance of governments globally," Al Gergawi said

He stressed that the partnership would help fulfil the vision for the Government Summit as determined by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. "Strong international partnerships such as this will enhance the effectiveness of the Government Summit as a forum for improving government services and developing innovative concepts, policies and projects. Better government will benefit all people around the world," Al Gergawi said

Regarding the Summit on the Global Agenda, Al Gergawi said the UAE is committed to providing all facilities and resources to host the global event successfully for the seventh consecutive year

"UAE intellectuals, experts and leaders will be involved in preparing papers and research material that reflect our country's vision on many global issues. Our ideas will help shape practical strategies that provide solutions to these issues," Al Gergawi said. "Both of these summits establish the UAE's unique global position on dealing with the challenges facing humanity. Each of them will enhance the positive contribution of the UAE to the region and to the world," Al Gergawi explained

The Government Summit is closely supported by the UAE leadership. It is attended by over 3,500 delegates with top-level speakers from across the region and around the world. It will launch a series of international reports and research papers on the development of government services. The summit will also host constructive discussions to expand and disseminate knowledge, and to develop best practice models for government across the region

The Summit on the Global Agenda will gather more than 1,000 of the most influential global thought leaders along with UAE experts from academia, business, government and society

They will engage in interactive workshops to identify trends and risks and to define priorities for improving the state of the world. They will seek agreement on innovative solutions that address global challenges such as food safety, energy, and strategic issues in areas such as education and health that affect the future of humanity
