Gay scores 41 as Kings down Pelicans

(MENAFN -Arab News) NEW ORLEANS: Rudy Gay tied a career high with 41 points, and Sacramento cruised to a 114-97 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night

Isaiah Thomas had 20 points and 11 assists, and DeMarcus Cousins had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who’ve won five of eight

Gay hit 16 of 25 shots, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range

Tyreke Evans scored 17 for New Orleans, which trimmed a 23-point first-half deficit to six shortly before halftime, only to fall behind by 23 again in the third quarter and remain behind by double digits the rest of the way

Anthony Davis added 16 points and New Orleans rookie center Jeff Withey had a career-high 14 points, but that was not nearly enough to prevent the Pelicans from losing for the ninth time in 10 games

Thunder 105, Trail Blazers 97: Kevin Durant scored 46 points, his eighth straight game with at least 30, to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to victory in a division showdown with the Portland Trail Blazer

With the win, the Thunder (32-10) took the lead in the Northwest Division from the Blazers (31-11)

Oklahoma City trailed 95-90 with about three minute left, but Durant caught fire and made a trio of three-pointers during a 15-0 Thunder run

LaMarcus Aldridge paced Portland with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Wesley Matthews added 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting

Heat 93, Celtics 86: Playing a third consecutive game without guard Dwyane Wade (knee soreness), LeBron James led the way with 29 points as the Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics

The Heat scored the last nine points of the game to earn the win and improve to 30-12, good for second place in the Eastern Conference

It was a much needed win for the Heat, who entered Tuesday’s contest having won just two of their previous six games

On Saturday, the Timberwolves blew out Utah by 26 points

Nets 101, Magic 90: The Brooklyn Nets continue their red-hot month with a victory over the Orlando Magic

Andray Blatch led the Nets with 18 points, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce each added 13 points as Brooklyn improved to an NBA-best 8-1 in January

While the Magic proved pesky in the first half, the Nets (18-22) outscored Orlando 27-14 in the third quarter to build a double-digit lead
