A 52-year-old woman was on Wednesday charged with several counts of forgery and use of forged documents for claiming that a newborn was hers. The Emirati housewife was accused in the Court of First Instance of forging a document, which she claimed was issued from the Ajman Sharia Court, which showed the newborn as a heir of her late husband
The housewife allegedly admitted in the investigation that she took the newborn from an unknown woman outside a local hospital in April 2007 and took care of him for one year
She visited the hospital repeatedly for four years after that to claim a birth certificate for him but could not obtain the same
She was summoned to the Bur Dubai Police Station two months later and was quizzed over the parentage of the child. Even though she claimed to be the biological mother of the child, the DNA test proved otherwise. She changed her statements then and told the police that she accompanied the real mother when she was admitted to the hospital
She claimed that she submitted her marriage certificate so that the woman could be admitted. She alleged that the biological mother had an extra marital affair with a man in Oman and became pregnant. The defendant then reportedly raised the baby after his biological mother disappeared
