FDI in Nicaragua hits USD1.5b in 2013


(MENAFN) Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Nicaragua reached USD1.5 billion last year, increasing 17 percent from 2012, Xinhua reported



Investment agency ProNicaragua said: "Of the total FDI calculated for 2013, USD105 million were invested by companies operating under the tax-free regimen, which represents an increase of 60 percent compared to 2012.



The sectors in which most of the funds were injected were the energy, telecommunication, mining, industry, trade, bonds and services



Almost 90 percent of the total FDI went to the aforementioned sectors with 201 projects from 31 countries including the US, Panama, Mexico and Canada



It is worth mentioning that Nicaragua's gross domestic product in the year was forecasted to expand by between 4.5 and 5 percent from 2012
