averda highlights responsible waste management practices at inaugural EcoWASTE event

(MENAFNEditorial) With the GCC region generating over 85 million tons of waste every year, averda, a UAE provider of international waste management and environmental services, is raising awareness of the vital need for communities across the region to implement sustainable waste management practices.

During the inaugural edition of EcoWASTE, which is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Malek Sukkar, averda's chief executive officer, highlighted the region's rapidly increasing population and the related increase in waste over the coming years

"By the end of this decade, the population of the Gulf region will increase by 30 per cent," said Sukkar. "It is absolutely crucial for regional stakeholders to foster and encourage sustainable practices that are required to handle the dramatic uptick in waste generation.

EcoWASTE, which is taking place this week at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, is dedicated to identifying solutions that address the soaring per capita increase in waste generation across the region.

"These solutions," Sukkar added, "require public and private sector stakeholders to collaborate and integrate their efforts. These solutions must be commercially viable and environmentally sustainable, while improving the quality of life for everyone who calls the Gulf region their home."

Averda, which oversees environmental services in countries across the Middle East, Europe and Africa, specializes in waste management solutions across the private and public sectors.

The company's portfolio of services ranges from cleaning and collection, recovery and recycling, along with diverting and responsibly disposing of non-recyclable waste. averda's capabilities also include the development of solutions for water, wastewater and solid waste for public, residential, commercial and industrial sectors, all within a sustainable framework that respects the natural environment.

"The first step is to inspire change," continued Sukkar. "At averda, we believe that everyone – including government authorities, corporate entities and even individuals – can be motivated to care for the environment and take responsibility for their actions.
