ISD Nikon Inter School Photography CompetitionExhibition organized


(MENAFNEditorial) Indian School Darsait organized its 3rd Annual ISD Nikon Inter School Photography Exhibition and Competition at its multipurpose hall on Thursday, 16th January 2014. Dr. Amsa Parambil, Vice President, School Management Committee inaugurated the event



The exhibition - Lights and Shades was a visual treat to the eyes with visitors thronging and queuing up to have a glimpse of the display of the kaleidoscope of the 'Finest Expressions' in myriad captured by the amateur student photographers from various Indian Schools across the Sultanate



ISD Nikon Inter School Photography competition & Exhibition started in the year 2011, supported by Khimji Ramdas and Nikon. Since then it has become an annual feature of the ISD calendar and the School organizes the event in January ensuring maximum participation from most of the Indian Schools in Oman. Nikon DSLR cameras are presented to the winners of the Photography Competition. This year too Khimji Ramdas and Nikon sponsored this event in which around 500 students from various Indian Schools in Oman participated.



Anil Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas was the Guest of Honour for the event, He said, "It is a commendable work done by ISD Nikon Photography Club every year to bring out the creative talent in children. I congratulate all on their strenuous efforts taken by the ISD management in making the programme very pleasant and appealing.



The Exhibition, which displayed approximately 250 photographs, The first three winners were awarded Cameras, 10 of them were given consolation prizes and 14 students were given A Grade Certificates. The winners were: First - Manoj Kumar Bains (ISM), Second - Harshin P Balakrishnan (IS Ibra) and Third – Benson George (ISD)



In her address Dr. Sridevi P Thashnath, Principal, Indian School Darsait welcomed the dignitaries. Making a special mention of Dr. Maitham's contribution in the field of contemporary cinema, she said. " It was indeed a great accomplishment to pursue profession and passion at the same time and be successful in both alike. She expressed her profound gratitude to Shri. Anil Khimji as the patron of this event and for his dedicated services and good work in the field of education; she added that the Khimji's are well known among the Indian as well as the Omani communities alike as compassionate philanthropists.



Mr. Shankar Raj, a renowned professional photographer in Muscat conducted a seminar for the members of Photography Club in the afternoon. The school presented a festive mood The visitors were highly impressed with the snaps and shots and were seen sharing their ecstatic moments of the exhibition with each other.



Dr. V.C. Govindarajan, Incharge, ISD Nikon Photography Exhibition said, "In this 21st century, even little children can handle the most sophisticated cameras to envisage their thoughts and imagination. ISD has taken this opportunity with the support of Khimji Ramdas and Nikon to bring out their inherent talents so that they can translate their hobbies and hone their skills further into a flourishing career"



The First prize winner, Manoj Kumar Bains, ISM Student 11th Grade said "It is indeed a great platform for the budding photographers. I am extremely happy to have been a part of this mega event. All thanks to Indian School Darsait, Khimji Ramdas and Nikon for their efforts." The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Devika Dinesh, Deputy Head Girl

The exhibition was open to visitors from 9 a.m. onwards and they made use of the opportunity to applaud and appreciate the efforts taken by Indian schools to provide various platforms like Inter school events of this magnitude for children to exhibit their innate talents.



Dr. Amsa Parambil, Vice President, School Management Committee inaugurated the event on the winter morning in the presence of Members of SMC, Principal, Dr. Sridevi P. Thashnath, staff, students and a good number of parents.



Earlier approximately 600 entries received from about 10 Indian Schools were evaluated by renowned photographers in the first round of the competition and after a tough evaluation, twenty seven photographers were selected for the 'On the Spot Photography Competition'. Finalists were taken to the Corniche area and Mutthrah Souk where they were given time to click pictures which were submitted for final evaluation.



The valedictory function of the event was held in the evening and the presence of the dignitaries from various Diaspora made the event an ever memorable one. The function started with invocation followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. Dr. Sridevi P. Thashnath, Principal extended a hearty welcome to all. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr.Maitham Abdullatif Al Musawi a surgeon at Khoula Hospital and award winning Short film Maker and the Guest of Honour Shri. Anil Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas LLC and other dignitaries.



Shri.Omanakuttan N, President, School Management Committee acknowledged the continued support and sponsorship of Khimji Ramdas & Nikon over the last three years for the smooth conduct of this annual mega event . He emphasized that providing platform for such competitions is a part of the vision of the schoo



The Chief Guest shared his experience in the field of photography associated with film making and stated, 'it is important for a person to follow his passion as it would definitely take him up the ladder of success.' Giving his own example he emphasized that though he was a surgeon he did not give up his passion for film making and thus he has earned himself fame at International level.



A slideshow showing a rich array of bounties of nature and expressions of people, was presented apart from the melodious group song. All the efforts to make the event feasible, running for the sponsorship and support Radhakrishnan Kurup, ISD event Coordinators and Lal A Pillai, HOD, Cocolastics deserve a special mention without which it would have been an impossible event.
