(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Following on from the good work by the first two teams from Oman Methanol and Vale, the team from HSBC is entering the last leg of the 43rd National Day expedition across the Rub al Khali.

For some members of the team, this is the first time they have been on a trip such as this. Taking on the responsibilities of camp, organising themselves and ensuring they complete the distances required are all part of the challenge, and the learning curve is a steep one.

Part way through the journey today we stopped at the Abu Tabul military camp. The soldiers there were interested to hear about the Outward Bound programme, and the journey that we have been on.

As with everywhere in Oman, the hospitality was extraordinary. We enjoyed coffee and dates and were able to have a wash. The team left refreshed and happy to proceed.

Mahir Mahomed Sangoor al Zadjali, a member of the team had this to say about the experience so far: ''Today was very hot. The cold wind from yesterday was not with us today, so walking was much harder. For me it was the first time to go to a military camp and we received warm hospitality. I decided to come on this journey because I thought it would be full of challenges, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to better myself, both in my personal and professional lives. So far I have got to know my colleagues much better and can count even more people as my friends within the company.

''I am already missing my wife and my new baby girl who was only born last week, but luckily I have been able to contact them today from the military camp, only for a few minutes. It was so good to speak to them. The time that I spend walking, away from computers and mobile phones gives me time to think, and I am definitely thinking about them, and our future.''

With our target for the week set on reaching the summit of the third highest dune in Oman, the team is in high spirits. As the blisters arrive, the challenge, both personal and collective, will increase.<
