(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) ISWK beats ISG to clinch U19 girls' cricket title
Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) grabbed the 2013-14 season's title in the Oman Cricket (OC) U19 girls' inter-school Twenty20 tournament after beating Indian School al Ghubra (ISG) by 14 runs at the Amerat ground recently.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, ISWK, aided by 52 extras, made 111 for five.
Akshadha Gunasekar top-scored with 32. Sharlet Bastin picked up two for 26.
In reply, ISG managed 97 for seven. Sunayna Devaiah top-scored with 28. Sumati Shenoy claimed three for 17.
Viswanath Iyer of Al Turki Enterprises, who was the chief guest at the final match, gave away the prizes.
Brief scores: ISWK 111-5 in 20 overs (Akshadha 32; Sharlet 2-26) beat ISG 97-7 in 20 overs (Sunayna 28; Sumati 3-17).
Individual winners: Best batswoman: Akshadha (ISWK), best bowler: Thara Fathima (ISG).
Assarain Classic golf on February 7-8
The Ghala Valley Golf Club (GVGC) is gearing up to host the 19th Assarain Classic, which will be held on February 7-8.
The 2014 edition of the tournament is being held in collaboration with Golf World.
Day one of the two-day event will feature a 36-hole stroke-play format, while day two will have a seeded draw.
Jay Townsend, the GVGC's general manager, said, ''It is an honour to host one of the oldest and most prestigious golfing events in Oman. It brings together golfers of all abilities under one roof and gives them an experience of playing under pressure.''
Coastal Cricketers lifts SQUH trophy
Costal Cricketers lifted the SQUH trophy after defeating SQU ONEIC by 99 runs in the final of the tournament recently.
In the semifinals, SQU ONEIC had beaten Friends XI by ten runs, while Costal had secured a ten-wicket victory against OEC.
The guests at the prize distribution ceremony were Adil Obaid, Venkatesh Prasad, Shekawat, Venkateshwara Rao, Baskar, Ramesh and Rafi.
Results: Final: Coastal 130-1 beat SQU ONEIC 31-9.
Semifinals: SQU ONEIC 65-9 beat Friends X1 55-5; OEC 65-5 lost to Coastal 67-0.
Quarterfinals: SQU ONEIC 98-3 beat Tawoos 67-5; Coastal 103-2 beat Wonder Boys 73-7; SQUH ONEIC 64-6 beat Friends X1 65-9. OEC 89-4 beat CECC 75-6.

Al Basim in New Year Cup semifinals
Al Basim defeated Boom Boom Cricketers by eight wickets at the Bousher Municipality ground recently to enter the semifinals of the New Year Cricket Cup.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be played on January 24 at the same venue.
