Oman signs air defence contract with Raytheon


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) In response to the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, on Monday signed a contract for purchase of air defence systems from Raytheon, with Dr Thomas A Kennedy, its CEO and COO.


The contract is part of efforts to upgrade the capabilities of the Sultan's Armed Forces and add new capacities to the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO).


The signing was attended by Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, secretary general in the Ministry of Defence; Air Vice-Marshal Matar bin Abdullah al Obaidani, commander of RAFO; H E Greta Holtz, the US Ambassador; and the US military attaché and a number of Raytheon executives.
