Home construction in US slows in Dec.


(MENAFN) US new home constructions showed signs of a slowdown last month, but the total for the year soared versus the year before it, Xinhua reported



The country's Department of Commerce said that privately-owned housing starts in December came at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 999,000 units, coming 9.8 percent below the 1.1 million logged in November, but 1.6 percent higher than December 2012



Single-family housing starts, forming nearly two thirds of the total, came at 667,000 units, coming 7 percent below the November data



For the entirety of last year, 923,400 housing units were started, logging an 18.3 percent increase from the previous year
