An estimated two million people have fled the country and somSyrian National Coalition's e 6.5 million have been internally displaced

Reacting to the SNC's Saturday decision in Istanbul, Turkey, Kerry said in a statement "This is a courageous vote in the interests of all the Syrian people who have suffered so horribly under the brutality of the Assad regime and a civil war without end." "By voting to go to Geneva II with a mission to negotiate an end to the war, the opposition has chosen a path that will ultimately lead to a better future for all Syrians," Kerry said

"The United States will continue to support the Syrian opposition as they embark on the best opportunity to achieve a negotiated political transition as outlined in the Geneva communique," Kerry added.
