(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) He strangled his compatriot to death in cold blood following a dispute over Dh8,500 loan, placed the body in a carton and left it in an alley in the Frij Murar.

A jobless Asian, identified as N.S.R., 28, who strangled his compatriot to death in cold blood following a dispute over Dh8,500 loan, placed the body in a carton and left it in an alley in the Frij Murar neighbourhood, has been given death penalty by the Dubai Court of First Instance. The court convicted him of premeditated murder.

The crime dates back to last May when the watchman of a building found the body in a carton box placed beside a garbage bin.

During the Public Prosecution's investigation, a police officer said the Operations Room was alerted that a body was found in a box in an alley in Frij Murar.

On reaching the spot, the police found the body of a man, who from his features looked Indian, but no identity card was found on him. The body was examined by a forensic doctor, who suggested the man was either strangled or hanged, the officer recalled.

"A special police team was set up and a manhunt was launched," he said, noting that investigations led to the jobless Asian whose fingerprints mathced with those lifted from the carton. A trap was set and the defendant was arrested.

During interrogation, he denied killing the man. Investigations continued and the police zeroed in on five Asian porters.

One of the porters said an Indian man had stopped him and asked him to carry the carton in return for a sum of Dh50. The porter and another person took the box on a wheeled cart, and the accused asked the two men to put it around 900 metres from a trash bin in an alley of the neighbourhood. Other porters also helped them in taking the box from the cart and placing it beside the garbage bin.

The CCTV cameras outside a hotel in the area showed the accused talking with the porters who were carrying the box.

When confronted with the evidence, the defendant confessed to having a relationship with the victim, identified as F.K.K., who was was from the same district in their home country. The defendant gave him Dh8,500 as a loan. Whenever the accused asked him to return the money, the victim would give some excuse or the other.

The victim asked the accused to visit him in his apartment to explain how he would return the laon amount. The accused reached the victim's place in 10 minutes, and asked him to repay the amount in full. The two got into a heated argument, which spiralled into a physical fight during which the victim fell on the ground.

The defendant brought a rope and strangled him to death with it. Once he learnt that the victim had died, he decided to get rid of the body. He bought a cardboard box in which he placed the body and with the help of the porters carried it to an alley in Frij Murar neighbourhood.
