Oman's MoT lines up events in India to attract tourists and filmmakers


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) To give Indian outbound travel agents a first-hand experience about the Oman's tourist offerings, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), in association with Oman Air, recently organised a familiarisation (FAM) trip for  travel and tour officials from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Delhi. 


MoT is targeting the Indian market with renewed vigour as India's outward bound is set to swell to 50mn by 2020, (according to UNWTO report). For 2014, the ministry is set to participate in more than 15 events and trade fairs lined up in different Indian cities.


The sultanate's participation began with the Travel and Trade Fair held in Chennai from January 10 to 12 this year and will continue with the participation in SATTE, a leading travel and tourism event, to be held in Delhi and Mumbai, from January 29 to 31 and February 3 to 4 respectively.


With Oman being promoted as a destination ideal for shooting of films, a multi-city event called India International Film Tourism Conclave (IIFTC) will be the place for Omani trade industry to display its attractions.


IIFTC is a new initiative of Film Federation of India (launched in 2013) to facilitate interaction between film commissions and tourism boards with the Indian film industry. The events will be held in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai on February 18, 20 and 22 respectively,


On September 26, Omani tourism industry will again get a chance to showcase its beautiful locales and attract film producers at Cinemascapes, a platform where leading film producers  will meet location facilitators and national and international tourism boards, in Mumbai.


There are various other travel and trade and (meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions) MICE fairs which will be attended by the Omani  delegation throughout the year.


The Indian delegation to Oman was led by Lubaina Sheerazi, MoT's India representative.


''For the travel agents, Oman was a pleasant surprise and they loved the destination and the experiences it has to offer,'' Lubaina said. The travel companies who participated in the trip were All4season Holidays, Flamingo Transworld, Kulin Kumar Holidays, Sunday Pure Holidays, Varun Worldwide Holidays, Vinaayak Holidays, Bhatijia Travels, TUI, Uniglobe Odyssey and Aarohan Tours & Travels.


Anshul Shah, managing director, All4Season Holidays said, ''Just two and half hours from Ahmedabad, Oman is a perfect holiday destination for the Ahmedabad market as it offers the best of nature, culture and adventure.''
