Paintings by artist show strong Omani influence

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Art exhibition ‘Tomorrow Was Beautiful' by Omani artist Yousef al Nahwi opened on Tuesday at Gallery Sarah under the auspices of Sheikh Ahmed Suwaidan al Balushi.

Nahwi has developed his own style of painting. Working within the traditional framework of landscape and figurative, Nahwi investigates through paint. His work has a strong influence of Omani culture.

Nahwi says he is in love with art and it gives him happiness. ''Art is in my blood. Artists should enjoy all forms of art: music, photography, theatre and poetry. These are all tools to develop your imagination as an artist.''

His greatest influence he said is Anwar Sonya, the master of painting in Oman. ''Anwar has been my greatest teacher and advisor throughout my career as a painter.

''My focus was to make people happy and I succeeded in capturing their hearts. My art is for the people and it belongs to them,'' said Nahwi.

For centuries artists have captured history with their paint brushes. Nahwi said it is an artist's responsibility to depict and preserve the history and culture of his country.

The exhibition will be held till February 11.&nb
