(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Six employees from Vale Oman are taking part in the second leg of the Outward Bound Oman 43rd National Day journey across the Rub al Khali.
After a great effort, Team Vale Oman on Sunday completed the longest leg of the journey so far, achieving a distance of 26km?Kbut is it doing too much too soon?
Only the next few days will tell.
The morning's walking was aided by a very welcome cloud cover that prevented the temperature from rising too high.
Having already completed 15km by lunch, everything achieved in the afternoon was gaining extra ground towards the goal.
But this journey is about much more than walking long distances each day. Having a small team in such close quarters, and needing to work together to achieve a task is a proven method to increase the productivity of a workforce, especially valuable if the members of a newly-formed team have never met or worked together before.
Vale planning engineer Majid al Hinai summed up the day: ''Today was a great achievement and like any achievement it didn't come easily for us - we had to work hard to achieve our goal. This morning we set a point in our mind, and all day we were just focused on attaining it.
By far it has been the best day yet. Keeping up morale has been a really important job today and we have been singing and telling stories to pass the time as we walk - stories about life events and our experiences.
Tonight I feel like the team is much closer than we were even last night. We are all from different departments in Vale, and didn't really know each other before this. When we go back to work I will know more people in the company and they will know me because of this great experience.''
Camp tonight is clear of the large sand massifs that have surrounded the teams since leaving Wadi Mugshin.
A large flat powdery plain, with barely any vegetation, we will be at the winds mercy should it decide to pick up in the early hours. Rain clouds threatened the sky this evening and a few drops fell though there is still significant cloud cover and if we are lucky, we will get more.
