Experts to discuss growing Asian economic clout


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The seventh Asian Financial Forum (AFF), which opens today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will be drawing more than 2,000 business leaders and senior government officials from across the world.



The annual forum, under the theme, "Asia: Powering World Growth," brings together some of the most influential members of the global financial and business community who will discuss developments and trends in the dynamic markets of Asia



AFF 2014 will present a variety of discussion sessions, thematic workshops and panel luncheons. With the global economy continuing to shift to the East, prospects on the Chinese mainland and throughout the Asian region will dominate the two-day forum



AFF steering committee chairman Benjamin Hung, presented the forum highlights at a Press conference. Consul General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao James Ian Burchett also spoke at the event



The Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong is sponsoring a workshop on the future of natural resource finance and investment and participating in the Forum's Global Investment zone



David Pierce, chairman of the Asia Private Equity Forum Organising Committee, introduced International Financial Week, which features 10 finance-related events



The AFF 2014 will be followed by the Asia Private Equity Forum on Wednesday. Organised by the Hong Kong Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, APEF 2014 is expected to feature more than 50 speakers and panelists and attract representatives of some of the world's largest limited partners as well as leading private equity investors in the Asia Pacific region



The APEF agenda will include speakers and panels dealing with key issues facing investors in Asia's leading private markets, including those of China, India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea



APEF 2014 is a non-commercial industry event organised by HKVCA, Asia's oldest and largest private equity industry association, with the support of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and industry associations from Asia and around the world



Last year, the sixth AFF, under the theme "Asia: Shaping the Next Global Landscape", featured some of the world's most respected leaders in government, financial and business sectors



The AFF 2013 attracted a total of 2,388 participants from 39 countries and regions, about 81 per cent of them were CEOs and senior decision makers. More than 500 journalists and media representatives attended the forum



This year, the forum will feature some high-profile speakers. They include Timothy Geithner, secretary of the Treasury under US President Barack Obama from 2009 until last January



Geithner will be the keynote speaker at the forum's January 14 luncheon. In all, more than 100 speakers will take part in the two-day forum
