(MENAFN - Arab News) Field teams of Riyadh Municipality have closed down 40 food facilities and eateries and banned 136 workers from work for violating public health regulations, Saudi Press Agency said. The field teams of Riyadh Municipality have been carrying out un-declared campaigns on food firms, eateries and restaurants in the city to ensure that they are complying with hygienic standards and regulations.
Some 162 food facilities were given notices for minor violations with no closure order but a warning to correct the irregularities with immediate effect. The owners were also ordered to sign a written notice that they would comply with the hygiene regulations, the media said.
Taking utmost concern over the health of citizens and residents, the teams took strict measures and immediate decisions on eateries and restaurants that were in violation of the health and hygiene standards which could be detrimental to human health, the media said.
Many cases of the closing down of eateries were attributed to the absence or expiry of professional licenses, poor hygiene, the presence of insects, poor food storage and expired food.
In some cases, meat, fish and chicken of unknown sources unfit human consumption were seized during the campaigns, according to earlier reports by SPA.
